A friend who produces olive oil in this area of Italy took us to their newly built cantina last week, which in fact it has only been open since the beginning of June, but the wines have been made by this small artisan Marche producer for many years.
The vineyards and cantina of Poderi Mattioli are located just outside the village of Serra de Conti and are reached by a long white track which passes through the hectares of their vines as well as the beautiful rolling hillsides that are so typical of this part of Marche. The new building has been designed to be a blend of both modern architecture and of the traditional designs of this part of the Marche region and the result is a very beautiful building which is complimented by the surrounding landscape.
Abbiamo recentemente scoperto questo piccolo produttore di due tipologie di Verdicchio vicino Serra Dei Conti in provincia di Ancona, nelle Marche.
Una nostro amico che produce olio d'oliva in quest'area della regione, ci ha portato a visitarli la scorsa settimana nella loro nuova cantina che ha recentemente aperto all'inizio di Giugno ma che di fatto produce vino da molti anni.
Le vigne e l'azienda Podere Mattioli sono situati appena fuori il villaggio di Serra Dei Conti e sono raggiungibili tramite una lunga stradina sterrata che passa attraverso le loro vigne e che offre una meravigliosa visuale della campagna e delle colline circostanti tipiche del panorama marchigiano. La nuova cantina é stata progettata in modo da coniugare la tradizione delle case coloniche marchigiane con le moderne necessitá che l'azienda richiede, sposandosi perfettamente con il paesaggio circostante.
The owners have concentrated on only producing two excellent verdicchio classico superiore DOC wines, the Ylice and the Lauro, the wines currently being only available in some local retail outlets and restaurants in this part of the Marche region. Their total production of verdicchio is still quite small but they are increasing the amount of land given over to vines and hope to be able to produce much larger quantities in the coming years, but still maintaining the same high standards.
Poderi Matteoli have also started to produce a sparkling wine but this is still in the very early stages of fermentation so this wine will not be ready for at least another four or five years, but will make up another part of their increasing white wine range which will be on offer to the public together with their verdicchio.
Il proprietario si é concentrato nella produzione esclusiva di due eccellenti Verdicchi Classici Superiori DOC, l'Ylice ed il Lauro, che sono attualmente disponibili solo in alcuni negozi specializzati e ristoranti della zona. La loro produzione complessiva é ancora relativamente limitata ma stanno attualmente incrementando le vigne per raggiungere una produzione piú elevata il prossimo anno ma sempre mantenendo lo stesso alto livello di qualitá.
Poderi Mattioli ha anche iniziato da poco la produzione di vino frizzante ma il progetto é ancora alle sue primissime fasi di realizzazione che permetteranno a questo vino di essere disponibile non prima di altri quattro o cinque anni di lavorazione. La realizzazione di un vino frizzante é parte dei futuri progetti che l'azienda intraprenderá per espandere la sua selezione di vini.
The vineyards are situated at over 350 metres on south facing slopes, and of course only the verdicchio grape variety is used in the production of the wines, with the wines having an alcohol content of 13% by volume
We are pleased that this excellent small wine producer are now in the position to allow tours and tastings at the new cantina and we hope to bring clients to visit and taste these fine white wines later this year and in 2014. They will be able to see this absolutely beautiful new building and the stunning surrounding countryside as well as being able to meet the producers who are always very happy to meet interested visitors.
Le vigne sono situate ad un'altezza di 350 metri, si affacciano a sud e sono interamente coltivate a Verdicchio, sola varietá usata per il loro vino che raggiunge una gradazione alcolica di 13% vol.
La cantina é ora in grado di ospitare tour e degustazioni e siamo lieti di poter collaborare con loro e di poter iniziare quanto prima a portare turisti a visitare e degustare i loro raffinati vini a partire dal prossimo autunno e poi nel 2014. Sará possibile visitare questa meravigliosa parte della regione Marche, la campagna ed i villaggi circostanti, cosí come degustare i vini e conoscere il prouttore che e sempre lieto di incontrare visitatori interessati.
